开头:good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen! today i’d like to share my personal experience of happiness and bitterness of being an english teacher。 i remember, five years ago, when i stood at the teacher’s desk for the first time, maybe because i was too young, maybe because i was too inexperienced, the students in my class paid no attention to me, didn’t behave themselves at all。 i felt ashamed and helpless。 in order to save my face, i just criticized the students seriously whenever they talked in class or even moved a little。 i thought sooner or later, they would listen to me。 yes, i could control the class now, but the students and the atmosphere became strange。 no, they were not listening to me。 it was too quiet。 the breathless silence urged me to consider the way i was teaching。

开头:can money buy happiness? different people have different opinions. some think yes, while others hold the opposite. it is true that with enough money one can buy all the things one wants, and live a life of comfort and security. however, it is equally true that lack of money causes great distress. it is a common view that 'money is the root of all evil.' the pursuit of money drives many people to cheat and steal. in some places there is nothing that cannot be bought with money, resulting in corrupt societies where everybody is miserable.

开头:now if all this is true, then why are we getting it so wrong? why are we setting up our schools this way and our workplaces? and why are we making these introverts feel so guilty about wanting to just go off by themselves some of the time? one answer lies deep in our cultural history. western societies, and in particular the u.s., have always favored the man of action over the man of contemplation and “man“ of contemplation. but in america's early days, we lived in what historians call a culture of character, where we still, at that point, valued people for their inner selves and their moral rectitude. and if you look at the self-help books from this era, they all had titles with things like “character, the grandest thing in the world.“ and they featured role models like abraham lincoln who was praised for being modest and unassuming. ralph waldo emerson called him “a man who does not offend by superiority.“

开头:as we know, we would feel lonely if we didn't even have a friend. but it doesn't mean we could depend on our friends all the time. there is a amous motto saying that “a friend is like a quilt with cotton wadding, but the real thing that keeps you warm is your own temperature.” it is really true. we have to work hard together with our friends, encourage each other and help each other. when we receive love and friendship, we should repay as much as we can.

开头:we, having been living in one corner of the world for several decades, must ask ourselves what is the level of our national strength and our civilization. this is the final awakening of which i speak. to put it another way, if we open our eyes and take a hard look at the situation within our country and abroad, what place does our country and our people occupy, and what actions should we take?... our task today can be said to be the intense combat between the old and the modern currents of thought. those with shallow views all expect this to be our final awakening, without understanding how difficult it is to put [constitutional government] into practice... there is no difference between the shameful disgrace of submissiveneof men of ancient times hoping that sage rulers and wise ministers will practice benevolent government and present day men hoping that dignitaries and influential elders will build a constitutional republic. why should i reject the desires of dignitaries and influential elders, who are after all a part of the people, to build a constitutional republic? only because a constitutional republic cannot be conferred by the government, cannot be maintained by one party or one group, and certainly cannot be carried on the backs of a few dignitaries and influential elders. a constitutional republic which does not derive from the conscious realization and voluntary action of the majority of the people is a bogus republic and bogus constitutionalism. it is political window-dressing, in no way like the republican constitutionalism of the countries of europe and america, because there has been no change in the thought or the character of the majority of the people, and the majority of the people have no personal feeling of direct material interest.

开头:the past two days are special for the 7.23 million examinees and their parents. it is the national college entrance examination (gaokao in chinese). based on the current education system in china, the result of the two day exam greatly impacts the future of any students in china. the score will decide whether you can receive college education. for most places in china, only half of the students are eligible for college education (only 3.40 million will be admitted to colleges in 20xx) and the rest has to start work after high-school. in cities like beijing and shanghai, students are lucky enough to have a much higher ratio (more than 70%) to enter colleges.
